Arenus Sponsored Rider Inducted into Hall of Fame

St. Louis, MO, November 11, 2009 - Celebrated AQHA horseman Dave Belson has been inducted into the California Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame. Belson, a native of Chicago has resided in Arizona for the past 30 years. Although his address is outside of the California state lines, that hasn’t kept this dedicated judge, breeder and exhibitor from being an integral part of the CRHA. Belson was honored Saturday, October 24th during the California Reining Horse Association Challenge Reining show at the LA Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA.

Dave and his wife of 50 years, Myra, own and operate the breeding and training business, 5B Quarter Horses, which originated in Chicago, IL. The Belsons moved to Arizona in 1980. In 1984 Dave became the founding President of the Arizona Reining Horse Association. Although 5B is located in Cave Creek, AZ the Belsons have been active members of the California Reining Horse Association, formed in 1993. Over the years Dave Belson has participated in many activities to help the CRHA grow, including donating his time, talents and horses for the benefit of the Association.

Belson has been credited with suggesting programs to raise funds for the CRHA. These programs have included implementation of an annual stallion service auction, as well as an auction of young reining prospects. His personal donations to these fundraisers have helped the Association raise over $30,000.

Belson was nominated for the 2009 CRHA Hall of Fame award by CRHA Hall of Fame inductee, Roberta McCarty. Being nominated by a fellow member of the association, board member and past hall of fame recipient makes this award especially meaningful. “To be thought of for this award even though I don’t live in California is amazing,” said Belson. “This has been such a humbling experience.”

Dave Belson is a well known name out west, particularly in the discipline of reining, where when time allows, he competes in National Reining Horse Association non-pro classes. When he is not running his business or taking his own horses to shows, Belson is traveling the world judging AQHA, ApHA and NRHA shows. After using Arenus products on his horses and seeing the results with both STEADFAST® EQUINE total joint health and ASSURE® digestive aid supplements, a partnership was formed between Belson and Arenus. Last year, a yearling owned by Belson injured himself and Belson relied on Arenus products to provide additional support to the colt while he recovered. “I believe that using STEADFAST® EQUINE accelerated the healing time and gave him the support he needed to get back to work.”

“We at Arenus wish to congratulate Dave on this esteemed award,” said Simone Pophal, Business Manager for Arenus. “He exemplifies many qualities that make him an asset to CRHA including his long-standing involvement and support of the equine industry.”

After nearly 60 years of being involved with horses, Belson has no plans to slow down. “I tell my wife that the places we’ve been for horse shows and the things that we have seen internationally have been our vacations. Retirement, when it happens, will be whatever Myra wants.” Look for the Belsons and 5B Quarter Horses at the NRHA Futurity held November 26-December 5 in Oklahoma City, OK.
